Instagram has
quickly become the place to go for fitness inspiration – or
‘fitspiration’ as it is known.

And now, a new ‘fit list’ has revealed the top 50 online
fitness gurus on the social media site.

Top of the list is 21-year-old Sommer Ray, from Denver,
Colarado, who has amassed an incredible 16.9million followers
on Instagram.

The fitness star can earn $26,275 (£20,000) a post –
attracting up to 500,000 likes – on subjects such as fashion,
beauty, food, travel and even car rental – bringing her annual
earnings to $5.2million (£4million) a year.

However, her earnings are just a fraction of what British
fitness star Joe Wicks, known as The Body Coach, takes in –
with his annual earnings sitting at £12million ($15.7million) a
year.

His fifth fitness book is due out on Boxing Day and up to 500
people a day subscribe to his £147 ($193) weight loss
plan.

Despite being the top earner, he only managed to make 21st
place on the fit list with his 1.9million followers – leading
to suggestions of a gender pay gap between male and female
online fitness gurus.

There were only eight men in the top 50 on the
chart
, dubbed the ‘Fit-stagram List’ – which
was compiled by sports nutrition company Forza
Supplements.

‘Instagram is by far the biggest driver of this trend, so we
decided to put together the most definitive guide to the top
fitness influencers in the world and after months of research
we compiled the Forza Fit 50.

‘Clearly female Fitstagrammers are far more popular on social
media and 42 of the top 50 are women, and none of the top ten
is a man.

‘Yet there is a clear gender pay gap amongst the very highest
earners because Joe Wicks is making three times as much as the
highest ranked female on the list, even though she is number
one.’

He added: ‘Joe Wicks may be the top earner now, but I suspect
he is going to get toppled by a woman in the next few years,
thanks to the power of Instagram.’
